Course Description:
Introduction to Information Technology (IT) is designed to provide an overview to information technology concepts, as well as the impact information technology has on the global economy, its citizens, and industry. The content includes application software, computer hardware and software, basic Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), and networks.
Emphasis is placed on developing proficiency with touch keyboarding and fundamental computer applications, so that students may use these skills as communication tools for enhancing personal and workplace proficiency in an information-based society. This also includes proficiency with computers using word documents, spreadsheets, presentation applications, and the integration of these programs using software that meets industry standards. Additionally, employability skills—such as oral and written communications, problem solving, and ability to work independently and in groups--are developed.
Evaluation:
The student's grade will be comprised of Tests (40%), Classwork (30%), Projects (20%), and Quizzes (10%). This course is a rigorous high school level course and the grade achieved will be carried to the high school transcript. Students need to be self disciplined in learning the information to prepare them for the Industry Standards Certifications. It is important to note that if a student does not pass a certification (also counts as an test grade) there is a certain number of days before they are aloud to retake the certification. After each certification exam we will move on to the next module which could result in some loss of data if the student chooses to go back and retake a certification. It is my goal to have 100% of the students certified as a MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) by the end of the school year.
